one rocking friday night..

i cannot believe i was up at 2 am, gobbling down kenny rogers chicken smeared with barbeque sauce complete with coleslaw, potato salad and macaroni. the last time i ate was at 3:30 pm earlier. starbucks butter croissant. but pardon me, cos earlier that night i had hunger of a different kind. for good, raw, energetic live music. and i was fucking satisfied.

how best to describe jason mraz's gig at the esplanade concerthall? i'm trying so hard to come up with the right words. awesome.. great.. magical.. yes it was that good. HE was that good. in all my years of listening to him in cds, on radio i'd never have imagined i'd get to hear him live. i remember, i once watched 'the remedy' on mtv and could only imagine what hearing him live could do to me. he didn't disappoint. not a tiny bit. not even when we found that our seats were on level 4. far away but unobstructed so i didn't complain. he sounded way WAY better live. his performance was so flawless. and he was funny to boot. the percussionist toca and him made a great pair. great entertainment value, effortless.

these are the shots i managed to capture before the usher told me 'you've been recording and taking pictures. it's not allowed you know'. damn it LOOK AROUND YOU LADY, EVERYBODY ELSE IS DOING IT. some with flashes. just my luck i sat right next to where she was standing. nevertheless i recorded some of the performances on my phone. bliss bliss. jason mraz made my night.

but he wasn't the only one.

after mraz i was eagerly anticipating another hot act, rivermaya. hottest band in the philippines. all their songs sound awesome, even the tagalog ones. and the vocalist sounded so good live (i believe that's the mark of a true artist: sounding more awesome live). so rivermaya rocked so hard i gave in and bought their greatest hits cd. listening to it now i'm not regretting it.

after their performance they held a meet and greet session and OF COURSE we joined in. cd sleeve signed, photos taken, eli so damn happy.

one rocking night. one big smile on my face when i went to sleep. one tummy full of kenny rogers junk.
