you snooze, you lose?
so yesterday right, i was on my way home from work in the train. i happened to be sitting, saw a woman carrying her toddler in front of me so i gave her my seat la. i think she was standing there for quite some time just that i didn't notice her.
when i stood up, i looked at the whole row of passengers sitting and i wondered how come not one of them gave up his or her seat. i mean, surely they must have seen her before i did right. i looked at each and every one of them and discovered something. they were all suffering from the same ailment. an ailment so bad it would render them dead or something else fatal if they were to give up their seat.. SLEEPINESS.
yes very serious right? so i gathered that this sleepiness they're suffering from is so serious that they cannot afford to stand up or else they would fall flat on the floor.
WHAT, YOU'RE PREGNANT? SO? I'M TIRED OKAY SO EXCUSE ME WHILE I PRETEND TO DOZE OFF.
HUH YOU'RE OLD AND FRAIL? I'M SLEEPY AND MIGHT DIE SO I NEED THE SEAT MORE.
SO YOU'RE CARRYING BAGS AND ALSO A HEAVY TODDLER BUT I AM SLEEPY THEREFORE I AM IN NEED OF THE SEAT MORE AND I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR TIRED LIMBS AND YOUR ACHING BACK.
i am appalled! i remember suhana once said no one gave up their seats when she was heavily pregnant also. what in the world is happening to our society ah? when i gave up my seat yesterday for the lady the rest of the passengers just stared at me (in between shutting their eyes cos they were "sleepy" remember?). what, is basic courtesy a foreign concept to you?
honestly i'm not a saint and for fuck's sake i'm not showing off how kind i am. i remember there was one time when i saw a pregnant lady and i didn't give up my seat cos she was too far away for me to call out to her.
but come on! someone in desperate need of a seat RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU JUST SIT THERE AND STARE AND LATER DECIDE TO DOZE OFF COS YOU SUDDENLY REALISE YOU'RE DAMN SLEEPY?? shame on you, my fellow countrymen!
